SHORT FILM | WRITER-DIRECTOR

A single mom of a special needs child struggles to keep her head above water as she tackles the day on a quarter tank of gas.

A promotional poster for the play 'Skettel' featuring a photo of a woman in fishnet stockings and a black top at a lively gathering, with people holding drinks around her, illuminated with red and green lighting, and the cast and production credits at the bottom.

Skettel is a proof of concept for the feature-length film of the same name. It follows a young, single mother, Marley, and the adversary she deals with in her everyday life and the raunchy nightclub she works at to care for her special needs son. In this short, we look at the day in the life of a young mother balancing college, a two-year-old, and her family as the eldest child, daughter, and first-generation American.

The story takes a trippy and surrealistic approach, exploring different themes and the nuances of being Jamaican and American. It also brings a fresh perspective to a sub-culture of the South - bottle girl culture. It is a survival story about a young mother who feverishly desires to preserve herself without compromising her child's wellbeing.
